I have a lot of experience in politics and government, so I wanted to learn first-hand how politics and the media intersect. Ceisler media also has a diverse set of clients, so I can really explore public relations in all types of industries.

This is a different experience than the rest of my past internships, so I’m excited to learn everything there is to know about public relations and communications and gain confidence in my abilities.

Anything pertaining to politics since the 2020 election is coming up!

The Basics

Name: McKay Norton

University: University of Pennsylvania

Major: Communication and Public Service

Expected Graduation Date: May 2020

Favorite class to date & Why: My favorite class I’ve taken is called Communication and the Presidency. The class focuses on presidential speeches, and culminates in a big research paper on any president we choose. I got the chance to travel to the Clinton Presidential Library and the University of Arkansas library in order to conduct primary research for my project in which I studied how Bill and Hillary Clinton respectively endorse each other for the presidency. It was a life-changing experience and definitely my favorite class to date.

Why You’re Here

What drew you to intern at Ceisler Media?

I think this internship will allow me to learn more about an industry I’ve only studied in the classroom. The work done at Ceisler Media aligns perfectly with my studies at Penn in that the communication work done here is for companies and organizations that are doing some form of public service.

What are you hoping to get out of this experience?

I want to learn more of the technical skills that are essential for jobs in PR, as well as get a better understanding of how this industry works as a whole. It’s also important to me that before I leave Philly, I have a good understanding of the issues facing the people in this city and throughout the state of Pennsylvania, which I know I can learn at Ceisler.

What issue(s) are you most excited to work on?

I’m really interested in education and children’s issues.

What are your post-graduation goals?

I’m hoping to attend law school in the fall.

Why You’re Here

What drew you to intern at Ceisler Media?

I’ve interested in the public affairs, nonprofit, crisis, and healthcare sides of public relations, and Ceisler Media does it all!

What are you hoping to get out of this experience?

I am hoping to continue to improve my writing and media pitching skills, as these are some of the most important skills that aren’t always taught in the classroom.

I am excited to work on affordable housing and clean energy issues. I’ve taken a few environmental science courses, so I’m very passionate about climate change issues in particular.
