David Montgomery loved the Phillies like every one of us. Before anything else, he was a fan.
On behalf of all of us at Ceisler Media, I extend condolences to his wife, Lyn, his children, his grandchildren and all members of the Phillies family.
David started his Phillies career as a young man, selling tickets by day and helping operate the scoreboard at night. He eventually rose to become general partner, president and CEO. He presided over the most successful era in franchise history – including the 2008 World Championship.
He also presided over the Phillies with dignity and loyalty. David cared about the customers and the people who worked for him – from star players down to the game-day vendors. He was a tremendous ambassador for the sport and the city of Philadelphia.
David was a proud graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, serving as a member of the Board of Trustees. He was involved with numerous local institutions supporting the arts, education and civic improvement. Among those, he served as Chairman of the Policy Board of WXPN, a position on which I am now proud to follow in his footsteps.
Many of us at Ceisler Media knew David personally. There’s never been a classier, more upbeat, more respected figure on the Philadelphia sports scene. We will miss him very much.
