Ceisler Media Principal, Larry Ceisler, reacts to management changes at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

I’ve got a great love and loyalty for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. My first job in life was as a paperboy, getting up at 5:30 a.m. to deliver the Post-Gazette.

It’s a very good paper that has kept up its quality as well as any newspaper through downturns in the industry. As a business, we at Ceisler Media depend on it for its broad coverage and credibility.

David Shribman, who recently left as editor, took the paper and its website to a new level. Their coverage of the Squirrel Hill shootings at the Tree of Life Synagogue was excellent, compelling journalism. The paper’s reporting on public policy, energy and environmental issues, Harrisburg and local politics is all excellent.

But transitions occur. As a firm, we’ve appreciated the access to op-ed opportunities in the Post-Gazette. Readers can look at any paper’s editorial page and find it too right-leaning or left-leaning. Certainly, the Post-Gazette leans right. Here’s hoping that the paper continues to be a force for quality journalism.
