Across Philadelphia, extreme heat from rising temperatures and a lack of cooling green space disproportionately impacts low-income communities, often those of color. This inequity affects their health, safety, and other important aspects of daily life.
Trust for Public Land’s (TPL) Heat Response PHL project engages community members in Fairhill, Grays Ferry, and Southeast Philadelphia to create public art projects that spark creative change and urgent conversation about the importance of building more connected and climate-resilient communities.
Ceisler Media and Issue Advocacy was selected to work with the Trust for Public Land in telling the story of the Heat Response project through marketing and communications efforts, while increasing awareness of the Heat Response project and TPL’s work building greener, more connected communities.
Ceisler Media gained coverage of the Heat Response project in a broad array of earned media outlets across the Philadelphia market, including print and broadcast media. The compelling narrative about public art as a way to facilitate meaningful connections and cooling solutions for extreme urban heat has resonated with reporters who cover this cross-section of topics. The project has been featured in purposeful coverage of the people making the changes at the heart of the Heat Response project — community activists and leaders, local artists, and policymakers.
Heat Response has been documented through a series of blog posts updating followers about significant milestones, bringing readers into the project and the communities in which it is effecting change. The blog is an owned media effort to share Trust for Public Land’s project narrative as we cultivate earned media in addition that features photos, introductions to the program’s participants, and insights into the process of translating art and conversation to solutions.
Ceisler Media helped Trust for Public Land engage with the Philadelphia community on Heat Response through events and webinars in front of an array of audiences. Social media has been an important medium connecting people and sharing news about Heat Response. By providing suggested social content to amplify key coverage and news, as well as engaging with partners city-wide, we have reached a wide audience.
With the help of Ceisler Media, Trust for Public Land has increased awareness of its Heat Response project throughout Philadelphia communities with local events and webinars, while growing and elevating its media presence across earned, owned, and social media.
