Coded by Kids

ISSUE

Coded by Kids, a nonprofit focused on creating opportunity for Black and Brown Philadelphians in the tech and innovation sector, sought to raise its profile and to position founder and CEO Sylvester Mobley as a regional expert on technology, education and building opportunities to grow intergenerational wealth.

STRATEGY

Coded by Kids engaged Ceisler Media to create a comprehensive public relations plan with the goal of growing Coded by Kids’s regional – and subsequently national – presence through strategies including thought-leadership, earned media and external engagements.  Ceisler Media amplified Coded by Kids’s work to help Philadelphia emerge as the capital of equitable tech and innovation. Initiatives included:

  • The nonprofit’s 1Philadelphia coalition, which connects funders, employers, schools, and community organizations to build a tech and innovation education system for Philadelphia residents.
  • Plain Sight Capital, a venture capital fund that focuses on identifying talented, underrepresented entrepreneurs to support.
  • Coded by Kids’s core educational programming, aimed at equipping students with web development, coding and tech skills.

RESULT

Mobley’s work to provide educational and entrepreneurial opportunities and a fair tech ecosystem to the next generation of Philadelphia leaders resulted in his recognition on Generocity’s ReaLIST and as one of Philadelphia Business Journal’s Most Admired CEOs.

In addition to landing press coverage for Coded by Kids’s extensive programming, Ceisler Media helped to secure op-ed placements for Mobley in the Philadelphia Inquirer, where he shared his vision for how to create opportunity in the tech industry, as well as a piece in the Philadelphia Business Journal co-authored by Dalila Wilson-Scott, Chief Diversity Officer at Comcast, and Jim Dever, Market President at Bank of America. The story focused on the 1Philadelphia initiative and the importance of a diverse tech community.

Ceisler Media identified speaking engagements for Mobley to share his expertise on diversity and inclusion policies, nonprofit management, and using tech and innovation to bridge the racial divide, including the Philadelphia Citizen’s “Citizen Speaks” event, where Mobley presented “A Discussion About Innovation in Education.”

Ceisler Media proudly continues its work with Coded by Kids to ensure all Philadelphians have equal opportunities to build wealth and economic freedom.
