Share Food Program Makes National Headlines with Its Support for Philadelphia

Federal and state government cuts increased hunger in Philadelphia. Ceisler Media helped Share Food bring national attention to the crisis.

ISSUE

Share Food Program is the leading hunger-fighting organization in the Philadelphia region and one of the largest food banks in the nation. In mid-2025, Share was dealing with deep federal funding cuts, a state budget impasse, and a 120% increase in need for their services. On October 1, the federal government shut down and halted SNAP payments for beneficiaries across the nation, further sending need skyrocketing.

STRATEGY

Each day, as the news unfolded, we added names and emails of reporters who were covering SNAP or food insecurity to a media list. Every few days, or when Share had a reaction, comment, or statement to share, we would target specific reporters based on coverage, from the list that we built, with the Executive Director’s media availability and a short pitch about what he could speak about that day. Ceisler Media also helped coordinate and staff interviews and press conferences around the issues along with talking points and statements to support them.

RESULT

As a result of frequent media engagement in late Fall 2025 as SNAP benefits ran out, Share has been featured nationally in The New York Times, Associated Press, USA Today, Axios, and The Hill and locally on CBS 3 Philadelphia, KYW Newsradio, WHYY, PhillyVoice, and The Philadelphia Inquirer. Between June and early November 2025, Ceisler Media helped place 1,221 media hits for a total of $8 million in value.

Ceisler Media’s work since 2022 to raise Share Food Program’s profile locally made it easier for reporters to seek comment from our client as an expert source in this time of breaking news and crisis.
