ISSUE
When the needs of our county government client’s communications team shifted in late 2024, Ceisler Media was there to help.
With the 2024 election over and attention back on the day-to-day business of running a county, our client realized its social media team members needed more training on how to balance the demands of a large government entity with the needs of busy elected officials serving constituents.
STRATEGY
Having already created a social media policy and strategy for the county, Ceisler Media developed a training boot camp to support employee growth. This work took pressure off the communication team leaders who needed to focus on message development and media relations.
Together, we identified four key areas for development:
With these in place, Ceisler Media worked with the communication team’s leads to identify who needed which training. The social media team’s work experience varied greatly, and while they had on-paper skills, they required additional support to meet the daily requirements of the job.
As a starting point, our team recommended a list of LinkedIn Learning modules on grammar, punctuation, copy editing and social media content planning that the county employees could watch on their own time. From there, we held meetings with the social media team that allowed them to address the challenges of the job without their supervisors on the call. Then we developed an action plan.
Ceisler Media created a 12-page workbook with exercises specific to the county’s needs and the social media team members’ areas of development. Exercises included:
RESULTS
Ceisler Media met weekly with the county social media team to discuss sections of the workbook, do exercises together and then assign and review “homework” to be completed at the following week’s meeting.
Ultimately, the county government client has been able to use the workbook as a training tool for all incoming communications employees, and to help measure progress for current employees who may be struggling with some aspects of the work.
